Rockport Jazz Camp for Kids only $75 for the week! Aug 10–15

Wow! This camp looks awesome, sorry for the late notice—any child, not just piano, with preferably 1–2 years’ study on their instrument, can sign up. I don’t know if the camp is full or not; here’s the info below. But it’s only $75 for the entire week!!

Check it out:

Rockport Jazz Camp August 2015 (made possible through Rockport Music)

From the Rockport Music website:

Rockport Jazz Camp, which was first held in August 2014, is the brainchild of two alumnae of the Eastman School of Music – saxophonist extraordinaire Alexa Tarantino and Rockport Music Director of Education and Outreach Stephanie Woolf. The 2014 program was a great success and we are looking forward to another excellent year with added faculty members, an expanded class schedule, and more performance opportunities.

Several of the Jazz Camp events will be free and open to the public, in conjunction with Rockport Music’s Jazz Festival. These include an improvisation workshop on Thursday, August 13 with members of the Alexa Tarantino Quintet, and a drumming masterclass on Friday, August 14 with Berklee College of Music faculty member Skip Hadden. The Quintet will also give a Family Concert at the Shalin Liu Performance Center on Saturday morning, August 15, at 10:00 AM. In addition, student groups will have opportunities to perform at several Rockport locations, to be announced at a later date.

Daily events will include small group performance workshops covering jazz improvisation and music theory, jazz listening/history class, masterclasses grouped by instrument, special guest masterclass, and large ensemble performance workshops.

Faculty include the Alexa Tarantino Jazz Quintet – Alexa Tarantino, saxophones, Brendan Lanighan, trombone, Michael Conrad, piano, Emiliano Lasansky, bass, and Eric Metzgar, drums – and Anthony Covelli, Director of Bands at Rockport Public Schools. Students of any instrument, age, or skill level are encouraged to apply, although a background of 1-2 years on the primary instrument is preferred. No audition is required.

The fee for the week-long camp is $75 per student.
